Ave Lares Permarini!

So, today marks the sixth day of Saturnalia, and things are starting to settle down a bit…

Today marks the anniversary date of the temple of the Lares Permarini, which you can read more about here. So, you may not find the next line of the Saturnalia Song particularly surprising as a result.

Saturnalia Song, Day Six

I’ll sing you this day–
Ave Antinoe!

What sing you this day?
Ave Ave Antinoe
Haec est unde vita venit!

I’ll sing this sixth day–
Ave Antinoe!

What’s sung this sixth day?
Ave Lares Permarini
Ave Angerona Dea Silentia
Ave Hercules Victor Deorum
Ave Ops Mater Abundantia
Ave Epona, Mater Equorum
Ave Saturne, Rex Sacrorum
Ave Ave Antinoe
Haec est unde vita venit!

What did I do on Solstice, you ask? Well, I enjoyed the light and the stories for part of it (i.e. watched television), but I also sang the songs I’ve written recently, as well as some from the past, and gave a private concert of such to the three dogs that live here. (Two of them seemed benignly intrigued by the whole thing, and watched attentively on my bed as I did so; the third, who is the one who likes me the most, seemed to object to the entire thing, and left the room before I even could begin. Oh well…no accounting for taste!) As you will have noticed, I didn’t write the Solstice mumming up here like I said I might–there didn’t seem to be any interest expressed in such, and thus I decided to conserve my efforts, spend more time in front of shrines and sun (and darkness) rather than screens, and simply save it for another time. Oh well.

But, perhaps most importantly last night, in the light of my Saturnalia wreath, under the influence of many deities, I continued writing All-Soul, All-Body, All-Love, All-Power, and got the section I was on done (which is the longest section in it thus far…and probably will remain so), and possibly a further one, depending on how I decide to parse the last few pages, whether as a new section, the start of a new section, or the end of the long section…I haven’t quite decided yet. The story took some turns I wasn’t actually expecting, but I am still pretty happy with it. We’re moving into more uncertain territory with the final three or four sections, so things should probably be rather unexpected and surprising–in a good way!–during the next week or so. If all goes well, I may have it finished by the close of this calendar year, and it will then be out in January! We shall see…

In the meantime, I hope your own Saturnalia, Chanukkah, Heliogenna, Yule, or Festivus is going well!

  1. I wish I could be part of Saturnalia. What a time that must of been. In the meantime, I celebrate the Solstice. :)

    • There’s nothing that says you can’t start it up again–while I’m doing it in small ways now, I hope to do it in more extravagant ways in the future, when I’m more financially stable and have my own space to use as I please, etc.

  2. Loving your holiday posts. But here’s a Christmas tradition you might be interested in, considering your fondness for a certain obscure Roman deity:

    • Oh, that is wonderful! Thank you so much for that! I shall be adding that to my post for today, because it actually fits quite well for a number of reasons, which I shall outline shortly…

I’m glad you’re enjoying these! I suspect you’re the only one reading them, actually…comment activity of late has been practically nil. I guess I have to totally make fun of some other religion on an interfaith website (or something like that) to generate a whole pile of comments…!?! ;)

  3. [...] two of the dragon-bell figures would be perfect for the Saturnalia wreath to represent…the Lares Permarini! (Plus, the Serpent Path has various dragons in it, including the one that Antinoë followed in [...]
