PantheaCon 2013: Your Assistance, Please!

The schedule for PantheaCon 2013 has been published: you can see it here.

There are currently four events that I’m involved with on Friday and Saturday; another one or two may emerge on Sunday or elsewhere as well…and, we’ll be doing Inundation rituals every morning at 7 AM (and a bit later on Monday morning, most likely). Those events are:

Friday, 3:30 PM, Boardroom: Pagan Intrafaith, Patheos.com Pagan Channel Bloggers

Paganism is so diverse that it may be better to consider it an umbrella for a variety of religious traditions rather than a religion in itself. In this panel, Patheos.com Pagan Channel bloggers will discuss the need for intrafaith work within the Pagan movement. Can we use models of interfaith work to support collaboration, deeper understanding, and better communication in our own communities?

Friday, 11:00 PM, Oak, Lupercalia, Ekklesía Antínoou

Mars and Venus, Ianus and Quirinus, Faunus, Silvanus, and Antinous Lupercus…Come and celebrate the Ekklesia Antinoou’s version of the ancient Roman Lupercalia ritual, for purification, protection, and blessing–what a great way to start your PantheaCon! An observance of the Parentalia, the festival honoring the ancestors, will be included along with the usual EA ritual format. All are welcome!

Saturday, 7:00 PM, Silicon Valley: Trans Deities for All–Meeting the Tetrad, Ekklesía Antínoou

This ritual/workshop will begin by the group helping to invoke the Tetrad–Panpsyche, Panhyle, Paneros, and Pancrates–four new deities who are transgender and gender-variant, along with honoring their seventy-eight (!) parents and grandparents. The Tetrad’s myth will be told in brief, and then the group will explore their own relations to soul, body, love, and power when it comes to their own gender identities. This ritual is open to everyone, of all genders and sexual orientations, as well as all ages–EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Saturday, 11:00 PM, San Jose/Santa Clara: Antinoan Dream Incubation Ritual, Ekklesía Antínoou

“…He heals the diseases of the needy ones by sending a dream.” (Obelisk of Antinous, North Face) Come join us as we honor Antinous as a moon-god and as a god who visits our dreams. We will be doing some chanting and other practices in order to invite Antinous into our dreams after the ritual ends, and for a restful and peaceful night’s sleep even if we do not dream. Wear night/sleep clothes if you like, as long as they’re PG-13! Doors will close shortly after the ritual starts. All are welcome!

So, there’s that.

Now, here’s where YOU come in!

I need (ideally) two more people to be Luperci for our Lupercalia ritual on Friday night. I already have a woman, but I need a “person under the age of 30″ and a queer person, and the latter two individuals need to be able to run. So, if you’re certain you’ll be at PantheaCon, and you want to attend our ritual, and you meet either of those requirements and would like to participate in that capacity, contact me as soon as possible! It always sucks to have to recruit people for this on the day itself…

In any case, there’s much more of interest going on at PantheaCon 2013, and I’m looking forward to attending many of the other sessions as well!

  1. Alas, I am 11 years over the age of 30, and since my knee surgery a couple years ago, I can no longer run. It’s a good thing I did it previously before my knee injury, although I think we may have fudged my age then. I would also check with Jay Logan. He’s going down with us, and I just found out that we got a room in the host hotel! Antino-heads unite!

    • We want all Luperci Alumni to be at the ritual this year, if possible, that will be present at PantheaCon. So, be certain you come!

But, having Jay do it would be interesting…often, Lupercization leads to mystification, but there’s no reason the reverse can’t be true this time! (Though, is he under 30?)

In your year, you were not the “under 30″ candidate, so that’s all right…that honor went to Sannion, who was under 30 at the time of the ritual in 2007.

    • So we’re confirmed-confirmed for the host hotel? That’s awesome!

      • Well, we’re confirmed with a room in the host hotel. I just don’t know if it is a room with one king bed or a room with 2 queen beds. I still have the reservation at the other hotel. I’m waiting to hear what room we got at the host hotel to release my reservation at the other hotel.

  2. I’d be interested in participating in Luperalia! I’m female, but also 30 and under and queer, so could be a fit? I can run, but not fast. :) And I’m planning on being there Friday night.

    • Yes, that could work!

Will you still be under 30 when the ritual happens on February 15? If not, don’t worry, as we may have another person who can fulfill the “under 30″ requirement.

Tell me a bit more about yourself in the meantime!

  3. I’m under 30, I’m queer, and I’m going to be there, so count me in!

    • Brilliant! It looks like we have our three, then! Awesome!

This will be the first time we’ve got more women than men being initiated into the sodality…very interesting indeed!

We shall talk about outfits soon–perhaps Sunday when I see you? ;)

  4. [...] Saturnalia/Sigillaria with the singing of the “Carol of the Tetrad,” and they will be the focus of a ritual at PantheaCon 2013. Work with and on them is ongoing, and while the ritual for PantheaCon was being discussed and [...]
