Laments and Reminders…

Unfortunately, yesterday didn’t go quite as I had hoped it would.

After I noted my latest Patheos.com column’s post in the last space of time I had while still at college, I came home (which is about a 90 minute process), and found there was a whole pile of little picky things to do here…which took until nearly midnight to sort out, and then I had arranged to talk with a friend on the phone for a few hours…and then I did a few more things, and wasn’t in bed until nearly 5 AM.

That prevented me from properly marking two holy days yesterday: the feast of Set Killing Apophis, and the Juturnalia.

Sometimes you kill Apophis (and Set always does!), and sometimes Apophis swallows you before Set kills him.

Luckily, the asteroid Apophis will not be swallowing any of us–and it passed over rather near to us, but still harmlessly, on January 10, 2013. I had hoped to get some video to post here of that (which I saw on the news the other day, and which ended up looking a bit like the Asteroids Atari game from the 80s!), but couldn’t find it…

Likewise, I didn’t get to have a bath with two really hot Spartan twin demigods in a certain holy fountain in Rome either. I didn’t even have the time to get to fantasize about such–which is a pity. :/

I’ve got a lot of work that I would like to get done this weekend, given that I am reserving weekends from here on out to do things I want to do exclusively. I don’t know how much I’ll get done, but I know at least a certain something will be going on tomorrow, which I’ll speak further on then.

However, in the meantime, a reminder: Academia Antinoi‘s next term is meant to start on Monday, so if you’d like to sign up, please do!

I’ll have more to say tomorrow, with any luck.

  1. I still really think it was a terrible idea to name an asteroid after something which continually tries to un-create the world.

(The Boyfriend gets it. Everyone else around me [who are not pagan/not familiar with ancient Egyptian mythology] kinds of goes “I don’t get it.” as I stand there, ranting and raving like someone standing on the corner with a sign shouting about how the End Times Are Upon Us! …. :P )

    • I wonder, though, if that’s how it got its name? Because there was speculation that it would be a potential world-killer? Hmm…I suspect when asteroids are discovered these days, they trace their trajectories and figure out if they’re a threat to the earth. It would be intriguing to look into that…
