Paganism and Privilege Panel at PantheaCon 2013

A few weeks ago, I posted on visible and invisible privileges, in the wider context of a variety of discussions of privilege within modern paganism. One of the matters which prompted that entire discussion on my part, and many of the other discussions of this issue around the pagan blogosphere, was the panel at PantheaCon 2013 which T. Thorn Coyle organized, and which included Elena Rose, Xochiquetzal Duti, Crystal Blanton, and River Higginbotham. The audio from that panel is now available via T. Thorn Coyle’s “Elemental Castings” series. You can listen to it here.

I’d suggest you pay especial attention to the last 15 minutes or so of it. Many of the issues raised there have been matters of great importance in my own life recently, with the situation (still ongoing) of religious prejudice that is taking place in my work life at present. There were far too loud protests on certain person’s parts that “But I’m a good and open-minded person and I’d never do something like this!” when in fact harm was caused and they wouldn’t admit to it nor see that it had taken place. While some of that has been resolved to one extent or another at this point, there is more to be done, and the battle is far from over. So, this is a matter that is by no means “finished” at this stage…but, the ways it is progressing at this point are mostly positive, so I’m hopeful that good outcomes will emerge from it.

But, in the meantime, listen to the panel! It’s well worth it!
